Known as the "pink quill" or "blue-flowered torch plant", Tillandisa cyanea (or T. lindenii) produces a large, bright pink inflorescence with a fascinating paddle shape.

Unlike most other Tillandsia, which use roots only to stabilize themselves, T. cyanea will grow well-developed root systems that supply nutrients when given a suitable medium. It can survive as an air plant with little more than misting and occasional soaking, however providing it with loose potting soil will result in larger and more frequent blooms.

This print comes from an 1869 issue of the Belgian botanical magazine L'Illustration horticole.
