Sarracenia leucophylla

Native to the Florida panhandle and parts of Alabama and Mississippi, Sarracenia leucophylla (white pitcher plant or crimson pitcher plant)is a beautiful carnivorous trumpet pitcher that can grow up to one meter tall.

Destruction of habitat and human collecting has left S. leucophylla rare and vulnerable in its native habitat, but it has proven to be one of the more cold-tolerant Sarracenias and now exists in many locations outside its natural range. Many hybrids and cultivated forms exist.

This illustration was printed in an 1855 volume of Flore des Serres et des Jardins de l'Europe (Flora of the Greenhouses and Gardens of Europe) and labeled as "Sarracenia drummundi", a misspelling of the older name S. drummondii.
