Rosa centifolia mucosa is a variety of the Rosa centifolia cultivar that became very popular with the Victorians in 19th century England. Commonly known as "moss roses", the flower buds of this variety are covered in fine, moss-like hairs that cause them to sparkle when wet.
This illustration was painted by the famous French botanical illustrator Pierre-Joseph Redouté. More of his work can be seen at Rosa centifolia pompona and Rosa rugosa.
